Tying & Flying: Beginning Self-Suspension
309 1st Ave S
Seattle
WA 98104
Self-suspension can be used for dynamic movement, exploring intense sensation, performance, learning partnered bondage, ritual, and more. After a discussion of general principles and safety considerations specific to self-suspension, participants will practice support line skills and be guided through a basic face-up self suspension, with a possible transition to an inversion and introduction to some in-air variations.
This class utilizes an “inverted classroom” format – participants are expected to have working knowledge of a self-tied chest harness and hip harness and basic bondage safety prior to coming to class. We will still tie the harnesses as a class, so attendees are not expected to have them memorized – don’t stress yourself out! – but familiarity will allow us to spend the class time polishing your harnesses and working on “in-air” skills. These harnesses can be found in free videos; specific links and alternative Tying & Flying page number references will be e-mailed to attendees.
- Class size is limited to ensure everyone has “air time” and personalized instruction. There will be a hard point for each attendee. Each attendee may bring one non-tying “spotter” if they would like, but this is not required.
- Supplies: You will need a basic self-suspension kit. There may be some supplies available to borrow, please contact Shay with any questions.
- Pre-requisites: This class is intended as a “101” level introduction to self-suspension. Attendees should have experience with tying on the ground (as both a top and bottom, and/or self-tying), and be very comfortable with non-cinching single column ties. In order to self-suspend in class, participants should review the health evaluation articles that will be e-mailed to attendees, and have body & risk awareness to participate at a level that is safe(r) for them.
